Sourcefire Inc., a leader in Enterprise Threat Management solutions based in Columbia, has acquired ClamAV, a leading open source gateway anti-virus and anti-malware project.
ClamAV will broaden the company’s open source footprint while providing the technology foundation for new products and services that will extend the company’s ETM network security portfolio.
“This will not only broader our reach, but will also allow us to extend our product family into a number of intriguing new markets,” Martin Roesch, founder and chief technical officer of Sourcefire, said in a statement.
Under terms of the transaction, Sourcefire has acquired the ClamAV project and related trademarks.
Almost 1 million unique IP addresses download ClamAV malware updates daily in 38 countries. The updates identify deeply embedded threats such as viruses, trojans, spyware and other forms of malware.
Shares of Sourcefire ended Friday trading at $10.05, up 52 cents or 5.46 percent for the day.
