Lockheed, others to compete under $950M contract

Three local firms will compete for business under a contract with the U.S. Department of Justice worth almost $1 billion.

The contract is the Mega 3 Automated Litigation Support contract, with a one-year base, five one-year options and a ceiling of $950 million. Lockheed Martin of Bethesda, Labat-Anderson of McLean and CACI International of Arlington now will compete to gain business under the contract.

The contract includes everything from processing documents, acquiring electronic data, converting paper records to electronic, program management and information technology services, Lockheed Martin spokeswoman Sheila Collins said Thursday. This contract will focus more on IT than its predecessor contracts, she said.

CACI and Labat-Anderson both worked on the previous incarnation of the program, Mega 2, along with Affiliated Computer Services of Dallas and Aspen Systems Inc. of Rockville. Since the award in 2001, Lockheed has purchased Aspen Systems, as well as the justice operations division of Affiliated Computer Services.

CACI has been performing similar services for Department of Justice since 1978. In a statement, CACI said online tools it will provide to the department will allow case managers to collect data more quickly, better analyze documents and search through large repositories ofmaterial.

“CACI’s award enables us to continue serving the high-priority law enforcement needs of the U.S. federal government,” CACI Chief Executive Officer Jack London said in the statement. Labat-Anderson did not return calls seeking comment.
