Ford Motor Company recalled 250,000 Ford Focus models after warning that the engine can stall while driving.

Affected models include Ford Focus SUVs, from the years 2012-2018.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall number is 26V369; Ford’s number for the recall is 26S40.

The company said the issue was supposed to be fixed in a previous recall, the 2018 recall. That original recall number from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is 18V-735.

Ford said vehicles that were not correctly fixed the first time need to be repaired.

Ford cited an issue with the canister purge valve. It could malfunction, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

The NHTSA said drivers could observe inaccurate fuel gauge indications or a malfunction indicator light on the vehicle.

Notification to dealers is set to start July 6. Customers can also search for their vehicle identification number.
