Microsoft on Wednesday announced it has purchased an equity stake in CareerBuilder.com, the popular online job search site.
The site is now owned by Microsoft, McLean-based Gannett Co., the Tribune Company and the McClatchy Company. Microsoft purchased a minority stake in the company.
Financial termsof the deal were not disclosed. Under a separate agreement, CareerBuilder.com agreed to be the sole content provider to Microsoft’s MSN Career’s channel.
“Our strategic business relationship with MSN played a major part in CareerBuilder taking over as the industry leader in 2006, helping to drive critical levels of job search traffic,” CareerBuilder Chief Executive Officer Matt Ferguson said in a statement announcing the deal.
