Fairfax County opens marketing office in Silicon Valley to lure growing firms

In its continued push to keep its title as the region’s center for information technology companies, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority has opened an office in Silicon Valley.

The satellite marketing office will better position Fairfax to lure new and expanding companies to the county, said authority President and CEO Gerald Gordon said.

With the new office, “we are able to provide a constant presence in the market to educate California technology companies regarding the opportunities in the federal market and other benefits of establishing a presence in Fairfax County,” Gordon saidin a statement.

There are currently 38 California-based companies with offices in Fairfax County.

Leo J. Campbell was appointed director of the Palo Alto office. He was previously with the U.S. Postal Service, where he managed the development of information-based products, many of them from California-based technology firms. Fairfax also has offices in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.

There are nearly 5,000 high-tech companies with offices or headquarters in Fairfax, including 22 of the top 25 federal contractors. In 2004, companies in Fairfax accounted for $11.5 billion of the federal government’s procurement dollars.
