The on-time departure rate at Washington Dulles International Airport so far this year is 81.17 percent, putting the airport at No. 9 among the nation’s 29 biggest airports. That is an improvement from its No. 13 ranking in the same period last year.

Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport did not score well, ranking No. 26 with just 75.56 percent of flights departing on time so far this year. In 2009, BWI had an on-time departure rate of 79.94 percent through September.

Seattle, Portland and Salt Lake City ranked as the best airports for on-time departures. New York’s JFK, Miami and Chicago Midway were the worst
