Southwest Airlines, AirTran slash D.C. fares on Cyber Monday

Southwest Airlines and its AirTran subsidiary have slashed fares in a Cyber Monday sale that runs until Thursday. Southwest and AirTran both have a huge presence at all three Washington-area airports.

A one-way ticket from Reagan National Airport to Ft. Lauderdale on AirTran has been cut to $104 and to $69 from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. A ticket to Montego Bay from BWI is down to $139.

From National, a flight to Los Angeles is going for $183. Travel from BWI to Albany, N.Y., or Charleston, S.C., is as low as $49 one way. A one-way ticket to Chicago is as low as $116.

Tickets have to be purchased on the airline websites by Dec. 1 for travel Dec. 8 through Feb. 15, 2012. A 10-day advance purchase is required. Travel is valid every day except Sundays.

Southwest is the largest carrier at BWI, where it carries more than half of the passengers that pass through the gates. AirTran is the second-largest carrier at BWI.
