An Arlington County manager has recommended new company EnviroCab be licensed for a 50-vehicle fleet.
The number is 15 cabs above what the Arlington Taxicab commission recommended at a hearing in July.
“It’s a huge endorsement,” EnviroCab owner Hans Hess said. His company plans to operate an all-hybrid, carbon negative fleet of vehicles in the county.
In his report to the Arlington County Board, manager Ron Carlee recommends a total of 86 new vehicles for the county, with 20 recommended for Red Top Cab, 10 for Crown Cab, five for Yellow Cab and one wheelchair-accessible cab for Friendly cab.
In the report, Carlee said EnviroCab’s recommendation was justified because it will spur competition and reduce vehicle emissions.
The Arlington County Board will be responsible in September for approving the new cab allotments, as well as deciding whether EnviroCab has permission to operate as a new company in the area.
