Dogtopia goes national with new partnership

A consulting and marketing group is helping Tysons Corner-based canine day care center Dogtopia become a national franchise.

Dogtopia provides day care in a spa-like atmosphere for dogs. After founding Dogtopia in 2002, Chief Executive Officer Amy Nichols managed to expand the company to six area locations, but the effort was taking time away from running her business.

“You have to go through roughly between 100 and 200 leads to get one sale,” Nichols said.

Dogtopia has entered into a partnership with the Findley Group, founded by the man behind the national expansion of the Curves fitness chain, Gary Findley.

Through the partnership, The Findley Group handles all the marketing, registration, selling and other details involved in franchising, Findley spokesman David Law said.

With the help of the Findley Group, Nichols’ goal is to open 30 franchises by the end of 2007, and about 200 over the next five years.
