Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., visited rural Pennsylvania on Friday to campaign for Republican Gov. Tom Corbett as Election Day approaches.
Paul stressed the need to re-elect Corbett as the embattled governor faces a double-digit deficit with days remaining. Paul said Corbett will continue to be an advocate for natural gas exploration in the state while continuing to keep taxes low.
Corbett, who trails Democratic challenger Tom Wolf by double digits, hasn’t been able to catch Wolf in the polls after the Democrat used his own money to define Corbett early in the election. Wolf cruised through the Democratic primary and built a strong lead over Corbet,t and has maintained a double-digit lead in most major polls.
Corbett, who has been hurt by education cuts, has tried to tie Wolf to the unpopular Obama administration by promising Wolf will raise taxes once in office.
President Obama’s approval numbers are low in the state; however, he’ll visit Philadelphia on Sunday, where he will campaign for Wolf.
Paul used Friday’s event to push his message that Republicans need to work to broaden the party’s base by going into major cities. Paul said Republicans need to attack cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, where statewide races are typically won and lost.
Paul will continue stumping for candidates in the final days of the midterm cycle. His political action committee, RandPAC, has been on the airwaves in Kansas to help Sen. Pat Roberts, and on Monday, Paul will join fellow Kentuckian Mitch McConnell for a number of events.
