Half of American adults say the new Republican-controlled Congress is bad for the country, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Monday.
Fifty percent of Americans say it’s bad for the country that Republicans gained control of both the House and Senate while 44 percent say it will be good for the country.
The poll also found that 52 percent of those surveyed believe there will be more gridlock in Washington with a Republican Congress, while 37 percent say there will be no change and nine percent say there will be improvements.
The CNN/ORC poll comes less than a month after Republicans’ sweeping victory in the November midterm elections that netted the party control of the Senate and increased the party’s majority in the House.
The poll surveyed 1,045 American adults by telephone Nov. 21-23 and has a sample error of plus or minus three percentage points.
