N.C. authorities may charge Trump with inciting violence

Authorities in North Carolina are considering whether to press charges against Donald Trump after a protestor was assaulted at one of his rallies in Fayetteville last week.

According to WRAL.com, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office investigators are considering filing a charge of inciting a riot. The sheriff’s office is going over the speech Trump gave during the rally “with a fine-tooth comb,” WRAL reporter Gilbert Baez told MNSBC Monday afternoon.

“During their analysis of that speech, there were several instances where Trump made comments that incited the folks to continue the violent acts during that rally,” Baez said.

Rakeem Jones was sucker-punched and then escorted out of the rally last week after protesting Trump’s speech. John Franklin McGraw was arrested the following day and charged with assaulting a protester and disorderly conduct, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Trump, who has since said he is looking into paying McGraw’s legal fees, has denied there is violence at his rallies. A Friday rally in Chicago was shut down after clashes between protesters and supporters turned violent.

“Our investigation is not complete as to the incidents of Wednesday, March 9, 2016,” the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Monday afternoon. It said it is still investigating whether there will be any additional charges against McGraw and also, “whether there was conduct on the part of Mr. Trump or the Trump campaign white rose to the level of inciting a riot.”
