Gov. Scott Walker is set to address the Conservative Political Action Committee in February, a must stop for any Republican with presidential aspirations.
The gathering, widely attended by conservative activists from around the country, kicks off Feb. 25 near Washington, D.C. Walker’s political aide confirmed that the Wisconsin governor would address the gathering.
“Gov. Walker is a hero to conservatives because of his successes in standing up to big government special interests,” said Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union, which sponsors the event. “A conservative leader who is not afraid to do the right thing, he has occasionally found himself targeted by an out-of-touch liberal establishment. Despite their best efforts, Gov. Walker can always be counted on to display real courage and commitment to the people of Wisconsin. He is a shining example of how and why conservative policies work and win. We look forward to his participation at CPAC 2015,” Schlapp said.
Walker has taken steps in recent days to run for president. He hired Rick Wiley, former political director at the Republican National Committee, to form a new political organization that is to serve as the precursor to a White House campaign, and is accelerating his political travel schedule. This week Walker is in San Diego to address the RNC winter meeting and later in January he is headed to Iowa for a forum organized by GOP Rep. Steve King that is expected to draw several 2016 hopefuls.
