House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., defended her post as Democratic minority leader on Thursday amid some calls for her to step down following this year’s midterms defeat.
Pelosi said she has no intention to step down and that she’ll stay on, assuming House Democrats want her to. The same goes for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, who intends to stay in his leadership post as Democrats transition to the minority.
Pelosi argued to reporters that when Republicans were losing seats in the Senate, few called for Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to step down. Pelosi said being a female may contribute to increased calls for her departure from leadership.
