Former 2012 presidential candidate and potential 2016 Republican candidate Rick Santorum said Tuesday morning he blames the media’s influence on Washington politicians for the passage of the $1.1 trillion spending bill approved by Congress this month.
“These major media outlets have an undue influence because they believe that the mainstream media, hounding away at them, will be the end of them,” Santorum said on the Frank Beckman show on WJR radio in Michigan. “They can’t beat back the press. They can’t win a fight with the liberal media.”
The former Pennsylvania Senator argued that Republicans in Congress need to ban together to fight back against President Obama on a number of issues, but most importantly, Santorum said, Republican lawmakers need to fight Obama on immigration.
“I don’t understand why the Republicans don’t ‘Johnny one-note’ focus on this until they get the president to back down, and the only reason I can think that they’re not is because they don’t think they can win,” Santorum said.
As for speculation on a potential run in 2016, Santorum remained quiet. He did say his organization, Patriot Voices, is raising money and he is exploring the possibility of another run, but he did not give a timetable on when an official announcement would be made.
