Hillary Clinton confidant Sid Blumenthal is scheduled for June 16th deposition before the House Benghazi Committee, the panel announced Friday.
The panel originally asked Blumenthal to provide a deposition on June 3 but the date was changed to a mutually agreed upon time. The deposition will take place in private.
Blumenthal sent dozens of emails about Libya to Hillary Clinton while she served as secretary of state. At the same time, Blumenthal was on the Clinton Foundation payroll.
Lawmakers on the House Select Committee on Benghazi are investigating Clinton’s role at State during the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
Clinton has agreed to testify before the panel, but her hearing has not been scheduled because Republicans believe both Clinton and the State Department have not turned over requested emails and other information needed to inform their questions.
Clinton has described Blumenthal as an old friend whose counsel she kept in order to ensure she was not “caught in a bubble.”
Democrats have argued that the GOP is on a political witch hunt and denounced the decision to send armed guards to deliver Blumenthal’s subpoena.
