Donald Trump on Monday kept up his pressure on Jeb Bush by noting that 9/11 happened on his brother’s watch, and argued that the terror attack wouldn’t have happened if he had been president.
“It was a total catastrophe,” Trump said Monday morning on “Fox and Friends.” “I think if my immigration policies were in effect, I don’t know that that would have happened.”
Trump has ramped up criticism of George W. Bush in recent days after fellow Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush praised his brother for “keeping us safe” after 9/11 struck early in his presidency.
“My standards are much higher for visas,” Trump said of his immigration plan, which he said could have prevented the devastating 2001 terror attack. “Number two, we have a massive whistleblower program.”
While Trump said he is “not blaming anybody,” he noted the attack did happen on George W. Bush’s watch.
Jeb Bush has begun hitting Trump on his lack of military experience, launching an attack video that portrays Trump as an unserious candidate for commander in chief.
