American Crossroads attacks Orman in Kansas

American Crossroads is joining the Republican cavalry that has come to the rescue for Sen. Pat Roberts, launching a digital ad targeting Kansas voters.

American Crossroads, a GOP super PAC, is spending $40,000 to run the spot as an advertisement at the beginning of YouTube videos and in other digital capacities. It attacks businessman Greg Orman, Robert’s challenger, as a liberal Democrat masquerading as an independent.

Orman has been cagey about which party he would caucus with in the Senate if he ousts Roberts on Nov. 4. Republicans have used this to assert that Orman would caucus with the Democrats and guarantee that Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., keeps his job as majority leader.

“He says he understands our values. But he supports liberal gun control and amnesty for illegal immigrants. He wants you to think he’s independent. But he’s given thousands to liberals like Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton and [President] Barack Obama,” the ad’s voiceover says.

Orman has surged to late September lead over Roberts after Democrat Chad Taylor removed his name from the ballot. But Roberts appears to have recovered his standing, and is now neck and neck with his challenger, following weeks of advertising from the Republican’s campaign and a host of GOP groups that has pummeled Orman.
