Texas Democratic candidate for governor Wendy Davis is using a 1998 rape case in her first television ad appearing in the Lone Star State.
Davis’ ad, titled “A Texas Story,” highlights a 1993 incident where a woman was raped by a contractor working for a distributor of vacuums. The company argued it shouldn’t pay damages for not completing a background check on the employee, and Davis’ ad highlights Greg Abbott siding with the vacuum company. Abbott was on the Texas Supreme Court at the time and is the current Republican nominee in this year’s race.
Money appears to be no object for either candidate in this year’s race so more TV ads are sure to follow, but the money hasn’t helped Davis in the polls. Recent numbers show her down by double digits to Abbott.
