MSNBC accidentally broadcast a caucus-goer’s use of the “F word” Monday night as the cable news network reported live from the Democratic primary in Iowa.
“[Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.] is for the [Department of Veterans Affairs]!” one Democratic voter said. “He cares about veterans’ rights. He cares about taking care of them. He doesn’t want to ship them overseas.”
As voters in Iowa passionately debated the merits of both Sanders and Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton’s respective campaigns, a team of MSNBC reporters leaned in with microphone and camera to broadcast the conversation live.
That’s when things took a turn for the unexpected.
One Democratic cacus-goer jumped in to the conversation to ask a Sanders supporter, “What I want to know, I get VA. I am VA. I am a vet. My mom’s a vet. How is [Sanders] going to fix it? The VA is more screwed up than it has been in a while.”
“The fact I haven’t gotten benefits in three months because the VA is so f—ked up really makes me concerned,” she added.
MSNBC immediately abandoned its fly-on-the-wall coverage of the conversation. Anchor Brian Williams wasted no time apologizing for airing the obscenity.
“We apologize,” he said once the cameras cut back to him in the studio. “We all [apologize] for a bit of French that snuck into our English language translation.”
