NEW YORK (AP) — Mayor Bill de Blasio is making a final appeal for the Democrats to choose Brooklyn for their 2016 convention.
De Blasio, who took office in January, said Tuesday that the city had the mass transit system needed to host the more than 30,000 people expected to attend.
He also said the city “will learn from mistakes” made during the last time it hosted a convention.
The city hosted the Republicans in 2004 at Madison Square Garden and more than 1,800 demonstrators were arrested.
The city agreed in January to pay nearly $18 million to settle civil rights claims stemming from the arrests.
The DNC is wrapping up a two-day visit to New York.
Brooklyn is one of five finalists for the convention. A decision is expected by early next year.
