President Trump took a swipe at Joe Biden for his many days with no scheduled public appearances, suggesting that the trend means that his presidential challenger is not equipped to lead the country.
“Sleepy Joe Biden just closed down his campaign for the day (Again). Wants to rest! He is a very LOW ENERGY INDIVIDUAL, and our Country cannot make it in these exciting, but complex and competitive times, with a Low Energy President,” the president tweeted Thursday morning.

The former vice president has been criticized recently for having a light schedule during one of the busiest times of the campaign season.
Biden’s campaign called a “lid,” which indicates that there will be no more information to track or report about his in-person activities and events, at 9:24 a.m. on Thursday, marking the ninth time this month that the campaign called a lid before noon. Biden has still attended virtual fundraisers during the days with an early lid on his in-person actives.
Defenders of Biden noted that his campaign previously announced that the former vice president would be preparing for the first presidential debate against Trump next week.
“Hey all, he’s in debate prep. Thanks,” Democratic strategist Eric Koch tweeted in an apparent response to the many tweets noting that Biden had again called an early lid.

It would not be unprecedented for Biden to limit public appearances leading up to Tuesday’s debate. In 2016, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton spent four days in New York before her first debate against Trump, as reporter Dave Weigel of the Washington Post noted.
