As House Democrats prepare to make Donald Trump the third president in U.S. history to be impeached, Republicans are cashing in on the divisive proceedings.
Since the start of the impeachment process, the Republican National Committee has raised $10 million in small-donor contributions and added more than 600,000 new donors.
The spike in contributions mirrors similar figures from September when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi first announced impeachment. The RNC raised more than $15 million in the 72 hours following Pelosi’s announcement and topped $27 million in September.
In contrast, Democrats have refused to release specific fundraising totals since the beginning of the impeachment investigation because the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said it does not have specific donor or dollar figures to share on impeachment.
Mike Reed, deputy chief of staff for communications at the RNC, claimed that “a quarter of Trump rally registrants are self-described Democrats or independents,” suggesting that some Democratic voters are skeptical of the push to impeach Trump. He told Axios that “voters are consistently expressing how they want Washington to focus on real issues.”
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on Tuesday tweeted a link to “Stop the Madness,” a website dedicated to organizing and fundraising for Trump’s reelection.

While the GOP is fully unified behind the president, two House Democrats disagree with the premise of impeachment, and Rep. Jeff Van Drew is even set to switch his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.
