Fox News hosting Bernie Sanders for town hall after DNC shut network out of debates

Fox News is hosting a town hall featuring Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders.

The town hall, which will be co-hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, will take place April 15 in Bethlehem, Pa., and will focus on jobs and the economy.

News of the independent senator from Vermont participating in a town hall with Fox News comes after the Democratic National Committee barred the network from airing any 2020 Democratic debates.

“Recent reporting in the New Yorker on the inappropriate relationship between President Trump, his administration and Fox News has led me to conclude that the network is not in a position to host a fair and neutral debate for our candidates,” DNC Chairman Tom Perez said last month. “Therefore, Fox News will not serve as a media partner for the 2020 Democratic primary debates.”

In March 2016, Sanders participated — alongside the eventual Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton — in Fox News’ only Democratic town hall during the 2016 election cycle.

The event averaged 2.6 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Sanders, who is in his second consecutive run for the Democratic nomination, is one of 16 declared candidates vying for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.

A few remain who have not declared but are leaning toward a run, including former Vice President Joe Biden.
