Clinton features Gabby Giffords in gun control ad

Hillary Clinton has released a new ad featuring former Rep. Gabby Giffords as she seeks to contrast herself with Bernie Sanders on guns ahead of the South Carolina primary and Super Tuesday.

Giffords was shot along with eighteen other people in 2011 in Tucson, Ariz. Since then the Arizona congresswoman has become a prominent gun control advocate and founded Americans for Responsible Solutions, a group focused on finding ways to reduce gun violence.

“I’m fed up. We have a gun violence problem, so I’m voting for Hillary Clinton,” Giffords said in the ad entitled “Gabby,” which will begin airing in the Boston and Springfield, Mass. media markets this weekend. “She’s tough. She will stand up to the gun lobby she will fight to make our families safer.”

Massachusetts votes on Super Tuesday and the Democratic primary is competitive between Clinton and Sanders.

“The ad is a reminder of what’s at stake for Bay Staters in 2016, and Hillary Clinton’s record of advocating for commonsense approaches to reduce gun violence,” the Clinton campaign said in a statement accompanying the ad. “There’s a real difference in Clinton’s record and Senator Sanders’ record on this issue.”
