Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., told his staff Wednesday that he is retiring from the House of Representatives.
“Eight years takes its time on you,” Ross told the Tampa Bay Times. “There’s got to be an exit strategy at some point … My wife and I decided this is a good time.”
Ross said he planned on serving 10 years in the House, or five terms.
The congressman said his decision to retire had nothing to do with Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., announcing he would not run for re-election, and also said it had nothing to do with a supposed Democratic wave.
However, Ross’ seat will become a target for Democrats as they try to take control of the House.
Ross said traveling to and from Washington has taken its toll and he wants to spend more time at home as both of his sons are getting married within the year.
