LAS VEGAS — Author Marianne Williamson ended her 2024 Democratic presidential campaign on Wednesday after a poor showing in the Nevada Democratic primary.
Williamson, who also ran for the Democratic nomination in 2020, not only got walloped by President Joe Biden on Tuesday, but she also suffered defeat to the “none of these candidates” option on the ballot. She announced she would end her campaign in an email to supporters.
“I read a quote the other day that said that sunsets are proof that endings can be beautiful too,” Williamson said in a video message Wednesday night. “And so today, even though it is time to suspend my campaign for the presidency, I do want to see the beauty.”
With 84% of the vote in, Biden got 89.3% of Nevadan Democrats’ vote, followed by 5.8% for “none of these candidates” and 2.9% for Williamson.
In South Carolina’s Feb. 3 Democratic primary, Williamson surpassed competitor Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) with 2.1% to his 1.7%. Biden also won the Palmetto State contest by a landslide, posting 96.2% support.

Williamson didn’t appear likely to exit the race following South Carolina, telling supporters on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, “Thank you to all the South Carolinians who voted for me in yesterday’s primary. Your faith in the possibilities offered by the campaign has been very moving to me. I will not forget your support, and I wish you all the best.”
In fact, Williamson held a dueling event with Biden in Las Vegas on Sunday, urging voters to support her.
“Nevadans! Early voting through Friday. Primary is Tuesday Feb. 6. Non-affiliated Independents become a Democrat-for-a-day at any polling station,” she wrote on X.

But apparently, even those Democrats who were unhappy with Biden didn’t see Williamson as a better option, resulting in a choice for no candidate at all.
Biden, as the incumbent president, is expected to collect all Democratic delegates ahead of the Democratic National Convention.
