Trump endorses Whatley to replace Ronna McDaniel as RNC chair, with Lara as co-chairwoman

Former President Donald Trump has endorsed North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley to replace Ronna McDaniel as the chairperson of the Republican National Committee. Additionally, Trump will support Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law, as the RNC’s co-chairwoman.

Donald Trump’s support for Whatley, who currently serves as the RNC’s general counsel, comes after the former president said he expected changes at the committee. McDaniel reportedly told Donald Trump during a private meeting recently that she would step down from her role in the party. The former president’s allies have sought to push her out as concerns have grown over the national party’s finances.

“The RNC MUST be a good partner in the Presidential election. It must do the work we expect from the national Party and do it flawlessly,” Donald Trump said in a statement Monday evening. “That means helping to ensure fair and transparent elections across the country, getting out the vote everywhere – even in parts of the country where it won’t be easy – and working with my campaign, as the Republican presumptive nominee for President, to win this election and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

In announcing the endorsements, Donald Trump said Whatley “has done a great job in his home state of North Carolina, and is committed to election integrity, which we must have to keep fraud out of our election so it can’t be stolen.” Last year, Donald Trump endorsed Whatley for RNC co-chairman, but he withdrew when it became clear South Carolina GOP Chairman Drew McKissick would win.

The former president added that Lara Trump has agreed to run as the committee’s co-chairwoman, a role currently held by McKissick.

“Lara is an extremely talented communicator and is dedicated to all that MAGA stands for. She has told me she wants to accept this challenge and would be GREAT!” Donald Trump said.

Donald Trump will back Chris LaCivita, his co-campaign manager, as the RNC’s chief operating officer.

“This group of three is highly talented, battle-tested, and smart. They have my complete and total endorsement to lead the Republican National Committee,” the former president said.
