Wesley Hunt to spotlight Biden’s record on ‘discriminatory policies’ in ad airing during CNN debate

During Thursday’s presidential debate, viewers in several swing states will see an ad highlighting President Joe Biden’s history of “discriminatory policies” and “racially insensitive” remarks, according to Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX).

The 60-second ad features a montage of past Biden comments about black people that sparked controversy, as well as his praise of two senators who supported segregation during his early career in the Senate. One of the moments was when Biden, on the campaign trail in 2020, said, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

The six-figure ad buy was funded by Hunt (R-TX)’s Hellfire PAC, and the ad will appear on CNN and Fox News in cities in the markets of Atlanta, Philadelphia, Detroit, Charlotte, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh. The cities in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin are all home to sizable black populations.

“Joe Biden’s political career is littered with racially insensitive comments, discriminatory policies, and self-lauded partnerships with segregationists,” Hunt said. “And until she was chosen to be his running mate in 2020, Kamala Harris agreed.”

According to polling, Biden is losing the support of some black voters compared with his numbers in 2020. Hunt, a black Republican from Texas, is a firm Trump ally and a rumored running mate for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. He will be at a watch party for the CNN debate on Thursday.

“My leadership PAC will reveal the truth about Joe Biden’s record on race, and you can see it live on debate night in swing states across the country,” Hunt said. “It is time for the American people to see who Joe Biden truly is.”

The Biden campaign targeted Trump and his allies in response to the ad announcement, saying they’re “happy to” compare records.

“While Joe Biden achieved record low Black unemployment, secured historic funding for our HBCUs, capped the cost of insulin, and secured billions in student loan forgiveness to close the racial wealth gap, Donald Trump left the Black community with nothing but skyrocketing unemployment and uninsured rates,” Biden campaign spokeswoman Sarafina Chitika said.

“After launching his public life by calling for the death penalty for the innocent Central Park 5 and his political life spreading racist conspiracies about President Obama, the best thing Donald Trump ever did for Black people was lose to Joe Biden four years ago,” she added. “Black voters are going to make Trump a two-time loser this November.”
