Thousands of conservatives, both young and old, have gathered at the Gaylord National Harbor Hotel outside the District for the annual Conservative Political Action Conference to hear a host of like-minded conservatives discuss the most pressing issues facing the Republican Party.
Taking center stage on Saturday is GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump. Trump, whose speaking slot has already riled members of the conservative party unhappy with his rise in the polls, is in a precarious position of whether to appeal to a more general electorate, like he did following Super Tuesday, or to speak to the more conservative wing of the party. CPAC has traditionally attracted more conservative members of the GOP.
Washington Examiner‘s Steve Doty spoke with Gayle Trotter of the Independent Women’s Forum about Trump’s upcoming speech.
