EXCLUSIVE — Republican Mike Minogue, an Army veteran and businessman running for governor of Massachusetts, is spending six figures to introduce himself to voters with a primetime ad that will air during Sunday Night Football.
The Minogue campaign will run a commercial detailing his career in the military and, later, as the CEO of a medical device company during this Sunday’s matchup between the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills.
The 60-second ad, which will be broadcast in the Boston media market, is an abbreviated version of the one Minogue released on Wednesday, when he became the third major Republican candidate to announce he will challenge Gov. Maura Healey (D-MA) as she vies for a second term.
“From soldier to CEO, I’m running to be a new kind of governor — one with the faith, heart, and the grit to serve Massachusetts,” Minogue says in the straight-to-camera video.
The two other Republicans running are Mike Kennealy, a deputy to former Gov. Charlie Baker, and Brian Shortsleeve, a former transportation authority executive.
Democrats have held every statewide office since 2022, when Healey was first elected, making the governor’s mansion a reach for the Republicans challenging her next year.
But Minogue is betting he can overcome Massachusetts’s blue streak with a campaign message that emphasizes the state’s high cost of living. He is a regular donor who supported Republicans in state and federal races but promises on his campaign website to “put America and Massachusetts before party politics.”
“Our current one-party system isn’t working,” Minogue says in his announcement video.

In terms of his biography, Minogue, a Bronze Star recipient and West Point graduate, is leaning into his service as an Army infantry officer during Operation Desert Storm and 19 years as the CEO of Abiomed, a Massachusetts-based tech company that makes heart pumps.
