Alison Lundergan Grimes said this week she intends to fight Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., if he chooses to run for Senate re-election and the White House at the same time in 2016.
Grimes’ remarks to WHAS-TV in Louisville are her first since her 15-point defeat to Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in November’s midterm elections. Grimes is Kentucky’s secretary of state and chief elections officer and said despite the projected push-back by the state GOP, she will fight Paul. Kentucky law prohibits candidates from running for two offices at the same time.
Paul has announced his intentions to run for re-election to the Senate, but has yet to make a final decision on whether he’ll seek the White House in 2016. Additionally, he hasn’t said whether he will challenge Kentucky’s law in court.
