Chris Matthews apologizes for swearing on live TV

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews apologized profusely Thursday evening after he slipped up and said “s–t” during a live broadcast from the University of New Hampshire.

“You’re kind of cranky, but you know your s–t,” Matthews told former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu as the two debated which 2016 GOP primary candidate had the best shot of wining the party’s nomination.

He added quickly before the segment went to commercial, “Shouldn’t have said that word. I have to say I’m sorry for that word. … That’s bad. I’m sorry.”

After the break, Matthews apologized again to his audience.

“I have to apologize again for that word,” he said, “I – I don’t know how I get it into my head, into tonight’s broadcast. It’s a four-letter word, not a good word to be using on television. It’s funny, if there is irony in this business. We blurted out the candidate, Donald Trump, who used the exact same word,” he added. “I wish I would be able to blurt my own word out.”

Matthews’ on-air flub Thursday evening comes just days after the left-leaning network accidentally broadcast an Iowan voter using the “F word” on live television during the caucus in the Hawkeye State.
