A pro-Cruz PAC took aim not at Donald Trump, but at John Kasich in a new ad, hitting the Ohio governor for being insufficiently opposed to President Obama.
The focus of the spot is Kasich’s decision to accept federal funds to expand his state’s Medicaid program under Obamacare. Kasich opposes the Affordable Care Act but says accepting the federal aid a pragmatic decision that helps ensure poor Ohioans receive healthcare. Cruz and others critics argue he should have rejected the money to avoid embracing part of the healthcare law.
“Barack Obama owes John Kasich for expanding Obamacare,” the ad “BFF” begins.
The ad shows Obama praising Kasich for Medicaid expansion, unpopular with many conservatives, and noted Trump antagonist Megyn Kelly, a Fox News host, reporting on Kasich’s decision.
“John Kasich and Barack Obama. Expanding Obamacare,” the ad concludes. “Wrong for Wisconsin.”
The ad is put out by Cruz-supportive Trusted Leadership PAC.
Kasich is running third in Wisconsin behind Cruz and Trump.
