Bernie Sanders deflected Hillary Clinton’s claims that he lacks the foreign policy chops to be president by comparing himself to President Obama when he was running for office.
“That’s what she said about Barack Obama in 2008, and it turned out not to be true” Sanders said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” Sunday. “I am impressed by the quality of his foreign policy.”
As he invariably does in comparing himself to Clinton on national security matters, Sanders cited his vote against the Iraq War, which he called “most important foreign policy issue in modern history.”
“Secretary Clinton voted for the war,” the Vermont senator said. “So, I think it’s not just experience. Obviously she has been secretary of state for four years, but it is judgment as well.”
“And I am confident that I can put together a strong team to provide great foreign policy for the people of the United States,” he said.
