President Joe Biden will give an exclusive interview with ABC News on Friday, his first since his lackluster performance during the presidential debate last week.
The network announced on Tuesday that Biden will sit down while traveling on the campaign trail with Good Morning America co-anchor and This Week anchor George Stephanopoulos on July 5.
A first look will air on July 5 on World News Tonight with David Muir, with other portions airing on Saturday and Sunday on Good Morning America. The extended interview will air on This Week and Good Morning America on July 8.
The news of Biden’s interview comes after the president performed poorly during the first debate of the 2024 presidential cycle. While most Democrats have avoided calling on Biden to step aside, a few have released statements encouraging Vice President Kamala Harris to take the reins.
Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) became the first sitting House Democrat to call on Biden to withdraw from the race. Former Rep. Tim Ryan also called on Harris to replace the president as the party’s nominee, calling Biden’s performance “deeply troubling” and a sign that the Democratic Party needs to move forward with new leadership.
Meanwhile, Democratic leaders on and off Capitol Hill have reportedly held meetings to discuss Biden’s debate performance and the best course of action forward. Some governors and House Democratic leaders have reportedly said they have not heard from Biden since the debate.

Biden himself has acknowledged that though he is no longer a “young man,” he can hold a second term.
“Folks, I would not be running again if I did not believe with all of my heart and soul that I can do this job,” he said to supporters in New York last week.
