Trump officially named 2024 Republican nominee during delegate roll call

MILWAUKEE — Former President Donald Trump has officially been nominated at the 2024 Republican National Convention to be the party’s standard-bearer this election cycle.

Delegates crowded into the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to show their support for Trump as President Joe Biden’s Republican opponent.

The vote was organized so that delegates from Trump’s home state of Florida were the final people to help him reach the threshold number of 1,215.

“It’s surreal because I’m not a political person per se, but I felt compelled to be involved after Jan. 6,” Laurie Schaefer, an Illinois delegate, told the Washington Examiner on the convention floor. “I’m a precinct committeeman, and I ended up being a Trump delegate, and after what he went through the other night, he is a rock star. I’m excited. I’m hopeful. I’m filled with anticipation for everyone to thrive. And that’s what I’m looking forward to.”

Trump’s nomination comes days after the former president survived an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, with a bullet grazing his ear. Earlier Monday, Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed his federal classified documents case in Florida.
