Former Michigan state Sen. Tom Barrett, the Republican candidate for Rep. Elissa Slotkin’s (D-MI) House seat, has been accused of misleading black voters by publishing the wrong election date in a black-owned newspaper.
The Michigan Legislative Black Caucus filed a complaint with the state’s attorney general accusing Barrett’s campaign of suppressing black voter turnout with the misleading information, posted as a full-page ad in the Michigan Bulletin. It states the election date is Nov. 6, not Nov. 5.
“At best, Tom Barrett and his Campaign have committed a shocking oversight which will undoubtedly lead to confusion by Black voters in Lansing,” the complaint said.
Barrett’s campaign denied that it intentionally sought to mislead black voters, blaming the mistake on a “proofing error.”
“Our campaign has been committed to outreach to the Black community and Black leaders because it is important to Senator Barrett that every community be heard in this election,” a campaign spokesperson said in a statement to the Washington Post. “The goal is to earn more support from Black voters.”

An Arizona Democratic Party office in Tempe has been shot for the third time since Sept. 16. No one has been arrested.
The building was shot around 12:30 a.m. Sunday with no one inside, police said on Wednesday. The “suspect vehicle,” as seen in photos, is a 2008 to 2013 silver Toyota Highlander with a sunroof, a roof rack, and five-spoke rims, they added.
Harris’s campaign has shared the office. She is expected to visit the state on Thursday.
The other two shootings occurred on Sept. 16 and Sept. 23, respectively, and, just like Sunday’s happened overnight between midnight to 1 a.m. All of the shootings have involved firearm rounds or BB pellet rounds. Police are still investigating.

Rep. Lori Chavez-Deremer (R-OR) criticized her Democratic opponent for allegedly ignoring claims of sexual harassment and assault by an operative assigned to her past campaign, decrying it as a “disturbing pattern” of failed leadership.
“It speaks to the failed leadership of supporting, oftentimes, the perpetrator as opposed to the victim,” Chavez-DeRemer said in a debate for Oregon’s 5th District on Monday.
The comments come in response to reports that Democratic candidate Janelle Bynum received a complaint that she downplayed sexual harassment allegations against a man who worked for her campaign two years ago. Bynum’s campaign has denied the accusations, noting she flagged the allegations to the accuser’s employer, Future PAC, “as soon as she was made aware of them.”

Premarket trading as of Wednesday morning shows a sharp drop in Trump Media shares, down 10%. Recently, share levels have been mirroring Wall Street’s feelings about former President Donald Trump’s election chances, and after last night’s debate, it looks like those feelings are not positive.
Trump Media stock has been trending downward since the company went public in March. It’s now standing at about 70% of its original trading value. Trump, who owns a majority of the company’s shares, has lost about $4 billion of stock value in the last few months.
The drop is a response to Trump’s performance at the ABC News debate against Kamala Harris. While many, including Trump, have criticized moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis for being unbalanced in their fact-checking, most agree that Harris came out on top after the debate, regardless of the moderators.

From Jack Birle

Former President Donald Trump took aim at ABC News over its handling of the presidential debate between him and Vice President Kamala Harris.
During the debate, Trump received multiple fact checks from ABC News’s David Muir and Linsey Davis, while Harris did not. Trump called the debate a “rigged deal” and said he did “great” despite it being “three to one,” while speaking on Fox News’s Fox and Friends on Wednesday.
“I have a list of seven different things, and she could say anything she wanted, every time I spoke — and my stuff was right — they’d correct you. I thought it was terrible,” Trump said. “From the standpoint of ABC, they’re the most dishonest, in my opinion, the most dishonest news organization. And that’s saying a lot because they’re all essentially really dishonest.”
Trump also quipped that ABC News should lose its Federal Communications Commission license to broadcast over the air due to its handling of the debate.

Trump says ‘I love immigrants’ following debate
From Christian Datoc
Former President Donald Trump told reporters "I love immigrants" after being fact checked by ABC moderators on the subject during Tuesday night's debate.
Trump told reporters “I love immigrants” after being fact-checked by ABC News moderators on the subject during Tuesday night’s debate.
Earlier in the evening, Trump mentioned a conspiracy theory accusing some Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, of eating residents’ pet cats and dogs.
Despite claiming victory, Trump hit the spin room following Tuesday’s debate to field questions from reporters, where he faced a number of questions about why he is “spreading false claims” about immigrants in Springfield.
“I love immigrants,” he responded simply after multiple questions.
He claimed his campaign’s snap polls showed him winning the debate by as much as 70 to 80 points.
Mabinty Quarshie contributed to this report from the debate spin room in Philadelphia.

Trump suggests he’ll agree to second debate but only with ‘fair network’
From Cami Mondeaux
In a rare move, former President Donald Trump hit the spin room following his Tuesday night debate with Vice President Kamala Harris to do a bit of damage control.
Trump suggested he would agree to a second debate against Harris but only if it is hosted by a “fair network,” he told Fox News’s Sean Hannity shortly after the debate concluded.
His comments come after Harris challenged Trump to a rematch in October immediately after the first concluded, noting the vice president “is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?”
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley said he would support Trump engaging in a second debate, noting, “Any opportunity for Donald Trump to be able to talk directly to the American voters and lay out his vision is something we’d be very interested in.”
The Trump campaign has not confirmed whether he will participate in a second debate in October.

Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) praised Harris’s debate performance on ABC News shortly after Harris and Trump left the stage, saying viewers saw a president “for all America.”
“You saw the confidence, you saw the vision, you saw the poise, and you saw the compassion for people,” Walz said.
Walz said she did well laying out her policies when it came to housing, the economy, and reproductive healthcare — arguing Trump was “angry, unhinged … talking about things that are deeply concerning because they make no impact on the American public.”
“I have to tell you, if it weren’t so dangerous, it reminds you of an old man yelling at the clouds. That was his thing,” the governor said.

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) is over Harris’s “joyful” campaign vibes that she’s touted on the campaign trail and during her first presidential debate with Trump.
“There was no substance there. It was all fluff,” he complained in the post-debate spin room following the two’s first faceoff. “It was all vibes, not concrete answers the American people need.”
Donalds has been a vocal supporter of Trump and gave a rousing speech endorsing the former president on the first evening at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Trump is not committing to a second debate against Harris, arguing he “won” the Tuesday debate.
Harris’s campaign called for a second debate as soon as the debate on Tuesday concluded, but speaking in the spin room, Trump said he does not know if another one will occur.
“She wants another debate because she lost tonight very badly, they immediately called for a second debate because they lost. So we’ll think about that,” Trump said.
A second debate between the two candidates has not been agreed to, but a vice presidential debate hosted by CBS News is scheduled for Oct. 1.

Mere minutes after Harris concluded her first debate with Trump, her campaign petitioned for a second chance to face off against the former president in October.
“Under the bright lights, the American people got to see the choice they will face this fall at the ballot box: between moving forward with Kamala Harris, or going backwards with Trump. That’s what they saw tonight and what they should see at a second debate in October,” Jen O’Malley Dillon, Harris campaign chairwoman, said in a statement.
With just 56 days until Election Day, a second debate has not been scheduled.

Harris brings debate fight to Trump in a way Biden could not
From Naomi Lim
From the courtroom to the debate hall, Vice President Kamala Harris the prosecutor tried to put former President Donald Trump on defense during their first and potentially only debate before November’s election, something President Joe Biden could not.
Harris prosecuted her case against Trump on Tuesday in Philadelphia in deeply personal terms, provoking him to be a less presidential version of himself by alluding to his crowd sizes and claiming world leaders were laughing at him. At the same time, Harris did not emerge unscathed, appearing perturbed by Trump parroting her “I’m speaking” line from her 2020 vice presidential debate and later telling her to be quiet.
