Civil rights activist Vernon Jordan dies at 85

Prominent civil rights leader Vernon Jordan died Monday evening at the age of 85.

Jordan was an adviser to former President Bill Clinton and was the former president of the National Urban League. He worked closely with several presidential administrations, from former President Lyndon Johnson to former President Barack Obama.

Jordan remained close to the Clintons, helping advise the former president's 1992 campaign, and endorsed Hillary Clinton in both of her presidential runs.

In his early career, Jordan brought a lawsuit against the University of Georgia's integration policy in the 1960s and later became a field director for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
