Man stabbed outside funeral
A man was stabbed as a funeral for a shooting victim was letting out nearby Thursday, authorities said.
It happened around noon at 13th and U streets SE. The victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to D.C. fire spokesman Pete Piringer.
Police have classified the incident as an assault with intent to kill and are investigating whether the stabbing is related to the funeral of Reginald L. Williams Jr. He was one of three people killed during a bloody night last week.
Infant struck by vehicle
An infant girl was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle near Chevy Chase in Northwest Washington, authorities said.
D.C. fire officials said a 19-month-old was hit about noon Thursday in the 3600 block of Jenifer Street NW. A father took the child out of the vehicle at a residential area, and the vehicle was apparently not in gear and rolled, striking the toddler, said D.C. police spokesman Officer Hugh Carew.
The girl was taken to the National Children’s Hospital and was expected to live, Carew said.
Police: Alexandria rec center director assaulted boy, 11
The director of an Alexandria city recreation center is accused of assaulting an 11-year-old boy during a basketball game at the center.
Alexandria police allege that 55-year-old Robert D. Gordon, the director of the Charles Barrett Recreation Center, had a “physical altercation” with the boy during a game Wednesday night. Jody Donaldson, a police spokesman, said the pair exchanged words during the game, the argument became heated and Gordon grabbed the boy.
Gordon has been charged with assault and battery and was taken to the Alexandria Adult Detention Center, police said. The boy wasn’t seriously injured.
The incident happened at about 7 p.m.
The center is located at 1115 Martha Custis Drive.
