Cop helps deliver baby

An Arlington County police officer delivered a baby in the back seat of a SUV, police said.

About 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, Cpl. Steve Troyano made a traffic stop in the area of 5300 Columbia Pike. Moments later, a frantic family member asked for help for her sister.

The pregnant woman was in the back seat of a nearby SUV, and the baby’s head was crowning. The 6 pound, 3 ounce baby girl was delivered at 6:41 p.m., and Troyano then removed the umbilical chord from the baby’s neck, Arlington County police said.

Her family told police that she will have the middle name “Stephanie” in honor of Troyano.

Jaywalker charged with firearms

A Silver Spring man faces firearms-related charges after police officers spotted him jaywalking, police said.

Foday Abdulai Gassama, 21, is charged with firearms-related charges and with failing to comply with the lawful order of a police officer, Montgomery County police said.

About 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, officers spotted four people jaywalking on Bel Pre Road in Aspen Hill, police said.

Gassama, who had a red and black backpack, immediately started running, police said.

Officers found the backback in a trash can near two children.

The backpack contained a handgun and ammunition.

Immigration scam alleged

A Hyattsville man has been arrested in connection with an alleged immigration scam, police said.

Ousseynou Kamara, 41, was charged with identity theft, six felony counts of obtaining money by false pretenses and two counts of forgery, Fairfax County police said.

Kamara approached two women in a parking lot at Landmark Plaza and told them he was affiliated with the World Bank and could grant them citizenship, according to police.

Authorities said he offered to fly one woman’s siblings to the United States from Africa for $10,000. The woman handed cash to Kamara but never received the services.
