Man charged with rape of child disappears

U.S. marshals are looking for a man who was charged with raping a child, then disappeared after posting bond.

Twenty-two-year-old Carlos Brizuela-Montano was arrested June 18, 2009, in Montgomery County on charges of second-degree rape and sex abuse of a minor. The suspect, who was born in El Salvador, was allowed to pay a $7,500 bond, and subsequently fled the area, authorities said.

Montgomery County authorities issued a warrant in January 2010 and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force has been searching for him since.

“Any crime against a child is a priority for the task force, especially something as heinous as a sex crime against a child,” said Matt Burke, of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force “We want this guy off the street and we need the public’s help.”

Brizuela lived on Hampton Road in Silver Spring, but he also has ties in Laurel. Brizuela also has associates in Brooklyn, N.Y., and has been seen there, but investigators believe he may be back in the suburban Maryland/D.C. region. Brizuela had done asphalt work in the past.

He is listed as being 5-feet-2 and 140 pounds. Although he does not have a previous criminal history, authorities believe he might be armed or have access to weapons.

If anyone has any information as to Brizuela’s whereabouts or who may be helping him, contact the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force at 301-489-1717.

Each week The Washington Examiner features a “Most Wanted” fugitive, and information provided by readers has led to at least 21 fugitives going back behind bars.

The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, run by the U.S. Marshals Service, includes 30 federal, state and local agencies from Baltimore to Norfolk. The unit has captured more than 29,000 wanted fugitives since its creation in 2004.
