Man killed by police on Capitol Hill identified

U.S. Park Police identified 27-year-old Kellen Anthony White, of Brandywine, as the man they shot and killed near the Capitol Wednesday evening.

Court records show White was on probation after pleading guilty to drug possession charges in August. In March 2008, he was accused of assaulting a police officer in Prince George’s County, but those charges were dropped.

On Wednesday, police say they tried to pull White over near Union Station, but he fled, striking two officers. When he finally came to a stop at New Jersey Avenue Southwest, police say he pulled out a gun and officers opened fire and killed him.

Police: Suspect in Falls Church standoff killed himself

A 44-year-old Falls Church man shot and killed himself as a police standoff outside his home neared its 24th hour, Fairfax County police said.

John Valentini was suspected of shooting the 36-year-old mother of his son, 8, when he ran inside his house on Lisle Avenue Tuesday night, police said. Over the next 24 hours, he remained inside the house with his son and a 44-year-old woman as police negotiated with him. When Valentini stopped responding to calls, a SWAT team broke through the door and found him dead, and his son and the woman uninjured. The shooting victim remains in serious condition.
