3 get prison in drive-by shooting

Three men were sentenced to prison for their roles in a drive-by shooting aimed at rival gang members that unleashed more than 25 shots on a Northwest D.C. neighborhood.

Prosecutors said 24-year-old Sergio Waynes, 27-year-old Brian Coles and 28-year-old Marcio Green began firing a semi-automatic pistol near Ninth and Crittenden streets NW on Aug. 17 because they believed members of a gang from that neighborhood killed Dewayne Coles — Waynes’ best friend and Brian Coles’ brother — in 2009.

The Coles brothers, Waynes and Green were members of the “KDY” gang; they were targeting the “CRT” gang, according to prosecutors.

Waynes was sentenced to 10 years in prison, Coles to three years and Green to seven years.

At least 25 shots were fired during the melee, authorities said. Green was hit twice.

Female students assaulted at Georgetown, U-Md.

Police are investigating the sexual assault of a female Georgetown University student.

The university’s Department of Public Safety said a man attacked the student on 36th Street near N Street NW at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday. Authorities said the student was sexually assaulted and suffered injuries, but did not provide further details.

In an unrelated incident Sunday, a female University of Maryland student awoke to find an intruder in her dorm room touching her thigh.

Teen charged in Metro slashing

A 15-year-old is in custody, accused of cutting another teen on the Metro system.

The incident happened at the Metro Center station just before 6 p.m. Sunday in a fight between the two acquaintances, said Metro spokesman Dan Stessel. A 14-year-old was cut on his chest.

The 15-year-old was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon, Stessel said.
