Man arrested in 2007 homicide
District police say a man has been arrested in connection with a 2007 shooting death in Southeast Washington.
Paul H. Johnson, 27, is charged with first-degree murder while armed in the March 14, 2007, slaying of 39-year-old Gregory L. Edwards. Edwards was shot near 15th Street and Congress Place SE.
Teacher sentenced in child porn case
Manassas high school teacher Kevin Ricks was formally sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison on child pornography charges.
Ricks, 51, pleaded guilty in federal court in Alexandria in March, admitting that he got boys in his care drunk, fondled them and took sexually explicit photographs and videos of them over a 30-year span as a camp counselor and teacher.
Victims identified in Wheaton hit-run
The husband and wife struck in a hit-and-run crash in Wheaton have been identified.
The woman, 39-year-old Maria De la Paz, was killed when she was struck by a BMW after she got off a bus near Veirs Mill Road and Centerhill Street shortly before 9:45 p.m. Monday. Her husband, 43-year-old Demetrio Gomez Sanchez, was also hit, and remains in critical condition, police said Thursday.
The driver initially stopped, then fled the scene, but was located nearby.
