Donation to fund National Zoo’s giant pandas

The National Zoo is set to announce a donation that will fund its giant panda program for the next five years. Zoo officials are slated to announce the “generous gift” on Monday. A statement from the National Zoo didn’t name the donor or amount of the gift, but said the donor will appear at Monday’s announcement. The zoo is also expected to outline the details of its 2012 breeding plan for the pandas and says its experts have witnessed the first signs of the pandas’ breeding season. The male giant panda, Tian Tian, is now “power walking,” the zoo said. Mei Xiang, the zoo’s female giant panda, had a pseudopregnancy earlier this year, the sixth time she had experienced a false pregnancy.
