Two men accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of coins from Metro stations appeared in federal court in Alexandria on Monday and waived their preliminary hearings.
Horace Dexter McDade and John Vincent Haile are charged with conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, according to court records. In Monday’s proceeding, lawyers for McDade and Haile said they would bypass the preliminary hearing, and the defendants signed waiver forms.
Haile was terminated from his job as an officer in the Metro Transit Police Department last week, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said, while McDade, a Metro revenue technician, remains suspended without pay.
