Burglar stuck in vent for 8 hours

A man trying to break into a Laurel restaurant became stuck in the ventilation duct for eight hours and needed to be rescued by emergency crews, authorities said. The man was discovered about 9:30 a.m. Thursday by a worker opening the Jerry’s Subs & Pizza at 9711 Fort Meade Road, Prince George’s County fire spokesman Mark Brady said. The worker noticed a pair of legs and feet dangling from the stove ventilation hood.

Police could not get him out. The intruder told the officers that he had been stuck in that position for eight hours and had difficulty breathing. Paramedics provided him with an oxygen mask, while rescue services cut him out of the ventilation hood.

The man, who was in his 30s, was taken to the hospital accompanied by police. He was still hospitalized late Thursday, and faces burglary charges when he is released.
