Transgender man’s death ruled a homicide

The death of the man in women’s clothing in Columbia Heights has been ruled a homicide.

Thirty-five-year-old Gaurav Gopalan, of D.C., was killed by a blunt impact head trauma that caused internal bleeding around the brain, according to a medical examiner spokeswoman Beverly Fields. The ruling was first reported by the City Paper.

Gopalan was found on Sept. 10, in the 2600 block of 11th Street NW. Police said he was wearing women’s clothing, makeup and high heels.

Gopalan is the second transgender killed in D.C. since July. There have been at least three other shootings of transgender people in the past two months.
