A 66-year-old registered sex offender from Lorton was arrested after police say he followed and touched a girl at the Potomac Mills Mall. Prince William County police allege that John W. Niehaus followed an 11-year-old girl around the mall Thursday afternoon, then rubbed up against her in one of the stores. He was charged with assault and battery.
The Virginia Sex Offender Registry shows that Niehaus was convicted in 2002 of aggravated sexual battery in Fairfax County Circuit Court. He was also convicted in Fairfax of three counts of sexual battery in 1998.
Niehaus is being held without bond.
The mall is located at 2700 Potomac Mills Circle in Woodbridge.
